Wedding Day Timeline: Build It Backwards From the Ceremony
Never start at 8am and hope it fits. Anchor the ceremony time, subtract each block, then add buffers. The buffers are what keep the day on schedule.
Sample timeline — 4:30pm ceremony, first look at 2:00pm

Buffer rules that actually work
+15 min between every hair/makeup person · +20 min before any travel · +30 min before the ceremony with zero tasks scheduled · never schedule photos in the last 60 min before guest arrival.
Three checks before you publish the timeline
- Venue access hours — if load-in starts at 11:00, an 08:30 hair start needs a second location.
- Photographer coverage — the quoted hours must cover detail photos through the exit, not just ceremony to dinner.
- Daylight — for a winter wedding, sunset may be before 5:00pm. Move couple portraits earlier or accept flash-only.
